BorderHQ Air Freight
Notice about Volumetric Weight

Carefully read the following about Volumetric Weight and Air Freight

BorderHQ is offering both Air and Sea Freight Import Services from USA and China. For all Air Freight services, not only the actual weight of any parcel is considered for billing purposes as with Sea Freight, but also the dimensional or volumetric weight. Size matters: An empty aircraft weighs in at about 170 metric tons. This empty weight will always be financed by the freightload and with only so limited room available on an aircraft, space is precious. For this and other reasons, not only the actual but also the volumetric weight (smallest rectancle in which your item can fit) is considered when billing an Air Freight service. Our partner airlines charge us according to the International Aviation Transportation Association (IATA), which set a standard for calculating the dimensional weight by multiplying Length, Width, and Height of your parcels in cm and dividing this product by 6000. Your result is the dimensional or volumetric weight, which, if greater than the actual weight, will be used as the chargeable weight.

Calculating Volumetric Weight

  • Length x Width x Height in cm / 6000 = Volumetric Weight
  • The greater of either actual or volumetric weight is the chargeable weight
  • BorderHQ Sea Freight is not subject to this calculation
